In the traditional Marbling technique, we combine the art of water and ink to create beautiful marbled effects on paper. The process involves floating ink on water or a similar medium and transferring the pattern onto cardstock, resulting in one-of-a-kind marbled backgrounds. The best part is that each creation is unique, with unpredictable patterns and swirls that add an element of surprise to your cards. We are going to use Shaving Cream instead of water and floating paper to get the same beautiful look.

Marbling Technique supplies

Gather You Marbling Supplies:

For this version you will need Shaving Cream (not Shaving Gel it want work), some ink refills, a plastic container, a plastic fork, a plastic knife or old credit card, and some Thick Basic White Cardstock or Fluid 100 Watercolor Paper.

Marbling Technique spreading the ink

First you are going to add the shaving cream to the plastic container (you want one that is big enough for the cardstock you are going to use) and drop in a few drops of ink refills. Use the fork to lightly pull through the ink refills and shaving cream in one direction.

Marbling Technique spreading the ink step 3

Next come back the other direction and repeat the pulling effect to create the marble effect. Place your cardstock onto top of the shaving cream and lightly press down with your fingers.

Marbling Technique pressing cardstock into shaving cream

Pull the paper from the top of plastic container and use the back of the plastic knife or old credit card to remove the shaving cream. You are going to do this by pulling down on the card at an angle. You can repeat the process many times with just the first set of products in the plastic container. You will want to change it after a little while because the more you do the more the colors mix and can make mud.

Marbling Technique removing the inked foam from cardstock

Once you have all the backgrounds completed you are going to let them dry over night. This way all the ink soaks into the paper and this allows time for the products to dry. Once it's dry you can use them.
