Welcome back, creative crafters! It's Technique Tuesday, and we have an exciting vellum hack to share with you today. If you've ever found yourself with a beautiful but busy piece of Designer Series Paper (DSP) that feels a bit overwhelming for your card design, this technique will come to your rescue. We're going to show you how to use vellum to tone down the busyness and create a soft, elegant look. Let's dive in!

Vellum Hack Technique Tuesday Video Tutorial:
Have you ever come across a stunning patterned paper that you absolutely love, but find it a bit too busy for your project? Well, we've got you covered! Join me as I reveal the secret to altering and softening those busy patterns using vellum overlays.

Supplies Needed for this Vellum Hack:
Busy Designer Series Paper (DSP) of your choice
Coordinating cardstock
Vellum Cardstock
Adhesive (glue, tape runner, or double-sided tape)
Paper trimmer or scissors
Stamps, ink, and embellishments (optional)

Choose your Busy DSP:
Start by selecting a Designer Series Paper (DSP) with a vibrant or busy pattern. Look for papers with bold colors or intricate designs that might overpower your card's focal point. This technique works wonders in toning down the busyness of such papers.
Measure and Trim:
Measure and trim your DSP to the desired size for your card front. Remember to leave a border of coordinating cardstock around the DSP to add stability and frame the vellum layer. Cut your coordinating cardstock slightly larger than the trimmed DSP.
Cut Vellum Overlay:
Cut a piece of Vellum Cardstock slightly larger than your trimmed DSP. Vellum adds a soft, translucent layer to your card, creating a muted effect that complements busy patterns beautifully.

Adhere the Vellum:
Apply adhesive to the back of your DSP, along the edges and in strategic spots where it won't be visible through the vellum layer. (Pro-Tip: I find that Tear & Tape works great for this and is pretty much invisible. Whereas Stampin' Seal or Stampin' Seal+ can be seen.) Attach the DSP to the coordinating cardstock. Ensure the adhesive is not visible from the front.
Attach the Vellum:
Now, gently adhere the vellum paper on top of the DSP and coordinating cardstock layers. To avoid visible adhesive marks, apply adhesive behind elements on the DSP that won't be seen through the vellum, or use a tape runner along the edges.
Embellish and Finish:
At this point, your card has a beautiful soft vellum overlay, toning down the busy DSP and adding an elegant touch. Now, you can complete your card by adding a focal point, sentiment, or any other desired embellishments. Stamp an image, heat-emboss, or use die-cuts to enhance the design further. Get creative and make it your own!

Once you are done with the outside of the card don't forget to decorate the inside of the card as well. Here I stamped the same floral image from the Irresistible Blooms Stamp Set on a piece of Basic White Cardstock to add to the inside of the card base.
