The moment I pulled out the Christmas Gnomes Stamps and Coordinating Dies from Scrapbook.com, I knew they were going to become the stars of a holiday card. There’s just something about gnomes—they’re playful, whimsical, and bring a little magic to any Christmas project. For this design, I wanted to create a card that felt layered and special but was still clean enough to let the images and colors shine. The finished look makes me smile every time I see it, and I think it captures that sweet balance between playful and polished.

A Clean & Layered Christmas Look

I’ll be the first to admit, when it comes to holiday cardmaking, I love the sparkle and shine, but I don’t want my cards to feel cluttered. That’s why I leaned into a clean and layered style for this project. By pairing simple layers of pattern paper from the Scrapbook.com Holiday 6x8 Paper Pad with crisp white cardstock, the gnomes instantly became the focus. The soft pink background with tiny white dots adds that snowy feel without overwhelming the eye.

A little pro tip: when you’re using patterned paper as a background, think of it as your “stage set.” You want the background to support the scene, not compete with your focal images. Keeping the colors light and simple really helped the gnomes pop.

Building the Gnome Panel

The vertical panel with the gnomes is where the magic happens. I added the Snowflakes Metallic Rub-On Transfers onto the white cardstock before layering on my stamped images, and wow—what a difference! The metallic detail gives a subtle shimmer that feels festive without needing to add glitter or embossing. It’s like giving your card a secret sparkle that catches the light when the card is tilted.

Here’s a little story: years ago, I used to be heavy-handed with glitter glue and embossing powders on Christmas cards. The sparkle was fun, but sometimes the card design got lost in all that shine. Using metallic rub-ons is a cleaner alternative that lets me keep the shine but also stay true to a more modern, layered look.

Coloring & Coordinating Details

The gnomes were stamped in Memento Tuxedo Black Ink and colored with Triblend Markers. I love how these markers make blending simple, especially for small images like these. Each gnome got its own personality: one holding a tree, one with a warm mug, and one ready to give a gift. Adding in the candy canes, also cut with the coordinating dies, ties the whole winter theme together.

A tip here: when you’re coloring multiple characters for one card, don’t be afraid to repeat colors across them. The pinks, greens, and teals I used flow throughout all three gnomes and even connect back to the background paper. This makes the whole design feel cohesive, almost like they’re part of the same story.

Sentiment with a Sweet Twist

The finishing touch is always the sentiment, and “Winter Wishes & Peppermint Kisses” couldn’t have been more perfect for this card. I love sentiments that not only say something kind but also echo the imagery on the card. With the candy canes scattered around the gnomes, the phrase ties everything together beautifully.

One of my favorite tricks for sentiments is layering them slightly over a solid panel or patterned paper. It gives them their own spotlight without being too dominant. Here, the placement balances out the gnome panel and keeps your eye moving across the card.

Final Thoughts

This card may look layered and detailed, but it came together with just a few key products from Scrapbook.com: the Christmas Gnomes Stamps and Dies, the Holiday Pattern Paper Pad, and those wonderful Snowflake Rub-On Transfers. Add in some good markers and crisp cardstock, and you’ve got a festive design that’s full of charm but still clean and approachable.

Holiday cards don’t have to be complicated to be special. Sometimes it’s about finding that sweet spot where your supplies do the heavy lifting, and you just get to have fun bringing it all together.
