Fall is in full swing here in Alabama, and I have to admit—it’s one of my favorite times of the year to create cards. The cooler weather hasn’t quite arrived yet, but the leaves are starting to turn, and that little shift in the air always inspires me to pull out my seasonal stamps. When I sat down with the brand-new September Release from C.C. Designs, I knew right away that I wanted to create something fun but also simple. So often, we think holiday and seasonal cards have to be elaborate and layered, but honestly, a clean and simple design can be just as eye-catching—and much faster to make when life gets busy.

Clean & Simple Fall & Halloween Cards with the C.C. Designs September Release

Four Adorable Designs, One Release

This month’s release features the sweetest stamp sets: Henry & Twila Autumn, Miss Witch, Cubby Witch, and Henry & Twila Halloween. Each one has its own personality, and I couldn’t resist making a card with each. Instead of going the complicated route with heavy layers or loads of embellishments, I kept the focus on the images. I stamped everything in Versafine Clair Nocturne Ink onto Springhill Premium Smooth White 110 lb Cardstock, colored with my trusty Castel Arts 120 Colored Pencil Set, and then fussy cut the images.

I love colored pencils because they give you so much control over shading, especially on smooth cardstock.

Pro tip: if you’re working with colored pencils, start light and slowly build up your layers. It may take a little more time, but you’ll get that rich depth without the waxy look.

Hello, Autumn!

The first card features Henry from the Henry & Twila Autumn Stamp Set. He’s happily jumping into a pile of leaves, which took me right back to my childhood. I remember raking leaves with my siblings, only to jump straight into the pile two minutes later. My dad wasn’t thrilled, but it was worth it for the giggles. To make Henry stand out, I added a soft blend of autumnal ink behind him, almost like the glow of a crisp fall afternoon. The simple sentiment, “Hello, Autumn,” finishes it off perfectly—clean, simple, and full of joy.

A Spellbinding Witch

Next up is the Miss Witch Stamp Set, and let me tell you, she’s sassy in the best way. I paired her with a bold pink ink-blended background for a little unexpected twist on traditional Halloween colors. Sometimes breaking away from orange and black can make your card stand out even more. A pro tip here: if you’re working with bright colors, keep the rest of the design simple so the focus stays on the stamped image. The sentiment, “I put a spell on you,” ties it all together and adds a playful touch.

Batty and Bright

The Cubby Witch Stamp Set may just be my favorite of this release. I mean, how can you resist a grinning pumpkin topped with a witch hat full of little critters? This one felt perfect with a darker, moody ink-blended background to really let that pumpkin glow. I love pairing whimsical images with bold contrast—it makes them pop without needing extra embellishments. The sentiment, “I’m Batty for You,” makes this card a sweet option not just for Halloween but for any time you want to send a little smile.

Halloween Fun with Henry & Twila

Finally, I used the Henry & Twila Halloween Stamp Set to create a fun trick-or-treating scene. Twila, dressed as a witch with her little cat in tow, just makes me grin. I added a glowing ink-blended moon behind her, which gave the card an instant Halloween feel without adding extra layers or patterned paper. Pro tip: using a simple circle mask for ink blending is one of the fastest ways to create a dramatic background. It looks polished but takes almost no time at all.

Wrapping It Up

Each of these cards shows how you can keep things clean and simple while still making them festive and full of personality. By sticking to core supplies—smooth cardstock, colored pencils, and a little ink blending—I was able to create four unique designs that are seasonal without being overwhelming. And the best part? They were fun to make.

The C.C. Designs September Release goes live today, and I think you’ll love these sets as much as I do. Whether you’re team fall, team Halloween, or both, these stamps are full of charm and possibilities. Remember, seasonal cardmaking doesn’t have to be complicated. Sometimes the simplest designs are the ones that shine the brightest.
