Hey there, crafty friends! Today I’m sharing a card that’s bursting with festive fun and a whole lot of red, white, and cute! I had the best time creating this sweet 4th of July scene featuring some of my favorite goodies from The Rabbit Hole Designs. If you’ve ever wondered how to turn a night sky into a celebration—with ladybugs, no less—you’re in for a treat.

Let’s take a closer look at this Happy 4th of July card and how it came together!

Create a Magical Night Sky 4th of July Scene Card with Lady Bugs from TRHD:

The Stars of the Show: Supplies I Used

For this card, I pulled out the Lady Bug Stamp Set and Lady Bug Coordinating Dies—because honestly, is there anything cuter than these little guys? I paired them with a sentiment from the Sentimentally Speaking Holidays Bundle, which has just the right touch of bold for a celebratory greeting.

To bring the night sky to life, I reached for some of my trusty Distress Oxide Inks (more on that below), a Copic Opaque White Pigment for splatters, and a flowers to tie in that patriotic red, white, and blue.

Let’s Talk Background: The Inky Night Sky

I started by stamping the word “Happy”—from the Happy 4th of July sentiment in the Sentimentally Speaking Holidays Bundle—in a circular pattern using clear embossing powder on Midnight Black 110 lb Smooth Cardstock. I heat set that, and let me just say, even before adding ink, the shine from the clear embossing was already giving subtle fireworks vibes!

Next came the ink blending: I used Blueprint Sketch and Lumberjack Plaid Distress Oxide Inks for a bold red-and-blue blend, and softened the center with a bit of Picket Fence Distress Ink to let the embossed stamping peek through.

After that, I spritzed the whole background with Iridescent Shimmer Spray, which added the most gorgeous, glowy sparkle—just like fireworks lighting up the night sky. Once that dried, I splattered Copic Opaque White Pigment to mimic stars (or firework flares), and it completely brought the background to life!

Coloring the Ladybugs

These little cuties were colored with Neutral grays to give them that nighttime glow, and I kept their spots nice and bold. I nestled them into a bed of red, white, and blue flowers (colored with alcohol markers), which really grounded the whole scene and made it feel like a peaceful moment during a firework show.

That Sentiment Though…

The “Happy 4th of July” sentiment from the Sentimentally Speaking Holidays set is the perfect bold greeting for this card. I heat embossed it in white on Midnight Black Cardstock, then die cut and popped it up with foam tape to make it the focal point.

Pro tip: If your background is super busy, keeping your sentiment clean and high-contrast helps it stand out without competing for attention.

Final Touches

A Midnight Black Cardstock mat and a crisp white card base finished things off, giving the card a polished look. And of course, I couldn’t resist adding just a few more white splatters—because it’s the 4th of July and we’re going for extra sparkle, right?

Wrap-Up

This card was such a joy to make and honestly reminded me of sitting on a picnic blanket as a kid, watching the fireworks light up the sky. I love how the ladybugs bring a playful, unexpected twist to a traditional patriotic card.

If you’ve got The Rabbit Hole Designs’ ladybug set in your stash, give it a festive spin this season—you might be surprised at just how versatile it is!
