Using Derwent Watercolor Pencils with Stencils on a Card

Updated: Apr 14

Hello and welcome to my blog; today I am sharing a card I made with the Center Flower Stencil from Picket Fence Studios and my Derwent Watercolor Pencils. Surprisingly it wasn't as hard as you may think. Here's a look at the card I made to share today.

Derwent Watercolor Pencils & Stencil Background Panel:

To create the background panel I cut down a piece of Canson Watercolor that I had in my stash. I did this because I was going to add water (be it a small amount but I was still adding water) to the pigment. I then took the Center Flower Stencil and added a little Pixie Spray to the back to secure it down to the Canson Watercolor Paper. You could totally use your Fluid 100 Watercolor Paper for this, but since I wasn't quite sure how it would turn out I used my cheaper paper to test it. I tend to save my more expensive watercolor paper for painting projects. I also placed it on my Stick & Stamp Mat for a little extra protection.

Once I had the stencil in place I picked out a few of my Derwent watercolor Pencils from my set that where on the same side of the color wheel and started tracing the stencil. Once I had al the colors add that I wanted to use in each area I came back with the same colors and added a little more color. While the stencil was still in place I went back in with my small paint brush and added a small amount of water to move the pigment around. When I colored each area I did add a little heavy application of pigment closer to the center of each petal so it would be darker there and allowed me to pull the color out. The Derwent Watercolor Pencils are an artist quality pencil and they have a great pigment load. So, a little does go a long way.

Once I had all the pigment moved around, the color had dried, and had removed the stencil I removed the panel from the Stick and Stamp Mat and added it to a Thick Basic White Cardstock card base. I added my sentient to a piece of Vellum Cardstock that I cut down with my Stitched Rectangle Dies. I stamped the sentiment in Versamark and heat embossed it with both White and gold Embossing Powders. I added adhesive behind the sentiment that was from the Biggest Wishes Stamp Set. I added a sub sentiment from the Paint-a-flower Poppy Outline Stamp Set from Altenew stamped in Black ink on a little stitched banner die cut from Crumb Cake Cardstock. To finish off the card I added a few pearls. Thanks for dropping by today I hope you have a wonderful day and a great weekend.
