Sometimes you just need a card that says it all—and says it loud. Not loud in a wild, neon, over-the-top way, but bold and cheerful, with a sentiment that really shines. That’s exactly what I had in mind when I pulled out a few of my Lawn Fawn favorites and started playing around with a playful, colorful Congrats card. I wanted something that felt happy and encouraging but still had that handmade, heartfelt charm. This card was the result of that little creative spark—and I’m so excited to share the details with you!

Easy Congrats Your Great Card | Lawn Fawn:

A Patterned Paper Shortcut to a Scene

Let’s start with the background. I’ve been reaching for the Bitsy Blooms 6 x 6 Petite Paper Pad a lot lately, especially when I want to build a scene without a ton of ink blending or layering. The soft blue plaid paper instantly felt like sky to me, and the green floral gave just enough interest to suggest grass or a meadow—without overpowering the other elements.

I trimmed the blue plaid down to 4" x 5 ¼", and the green floral to 4" x 4". Using Lawn Fawn’s Stitched Hillside Border Dies, I cut two soft hills. This die set is such a staple in my stash. It’s one of those tools that never leaves my desk because it works for everything—from winter scenes to spring gardens. I glued one hillside flat onto the plaid “sky” and popped the second up with 1mm foam tape for a gentle bit of depth. Once layered together, I attached the whole panel to a top-folding A2 card base made from Neenah Ultra Thick Cardstock. Simple layers, but it already felt like a happy little world.

Stamped Characters That Bring the Scene to Life

I knew I wanted this card to have a mix of whimsy and heart, so I pulled out two coordinating sets: It’s a Bird and Heart Tree from Lawn Fawn. These sets are adorable on their own, but when used together, they really shine. I stamped the tree, a few birds, and one sweet little mouse using Memento Tuxedo Black Ink on Neenah Solar White Classic Crest 80 lb Cardstock. This cardstock is a go-to for me anytime I’m using alcohol markers—smooth, crisp, and just the right weight.

Coloring these little critters with my Ohuhu Honolulu Brush Markers is always a joy. Lately, I’ve been making my birds red—something about the pop of color reminds me of cardinals flitting through the backyard in the early morning. They stand out beautifully against the blue plaid background and bring just the right amount of contrast to the card.

Pro tip: If you’re ever unsure where to add color, start by pulling from your patterned paper. In this case, the red birds not only stood out, but also tied in beautifully with the warm undertones in the floral paper.

Making the Sentiment the Star

Now for the part that really makes this card shine: the sentiment. Lawn Fawn’s Quinn’s ABC’s dies and stamps are such a fun way to customize messages and add a playful, graphic touch to your card. I used the coordinating dies to cut out the letters for “Congrats” and then stamped each letter using the matching alphabet stamps.

Here’s a little trick: stamping the letters after die-cutting them can help you get perfect placement without worrying about lining up stamps on a block first. Just lay your die cuts out on your work surface, and stamp one at a time. It’s a small thing, but it keeps the process stress-free and fun.

I colored each letter with coordinating Ohuhu markers and added a few white gel pen highlights for dimension. For a final touch, I applied Stardust Stickles to the letters—because sparkle is never a bad idea on a celebration card.

The Finishing Details That Make It Special

With all my elements ready, I started to assemble the scene. The tree went right in the center using a mix of liquid adhesive and foam tape. I added the mouse to the hillside (he just looked like he belonged there) and surrounded everything with those bright red birds to create a feeling of joyful movement.

In the heart on the tree, I stamped the sub-sentiment “You’re GR8” from the Heart Tree stamp set. It felt like just the right little detail to round out the message and make the card feel even more personal.

White gel pen highlights brought the characters to life, and just a few tiny dots here and there added light and texture to the scene.

Final Thoughts

This card came together like a little story—a cheerful landscape filled with joyful characters and a bold, sparkly sentiment that says it all. It’s the kind of design that works for graduations, promotions, or any of life’s little wins that deserve a handmade moment of encouragement. And best of all, it’s built from elements you probably already have: patterned paper, a few staple die sets, and your favorite Lawn Fawn critters.

If you’ve ever struggled to make a congratulations card that feels truly special, give this layered look a try. It’s playful, heartfelt, and surprisingly easy to pull together—and I know whoever receives it will feel how much love went into it.
