Easy Die Cutting Techniques: Altenew AECP Class Project

Hello and welcome to my blog; today I am sharing my next project for the Altenew Educator Certification Program (AECP). The next class I tackled was probably one that I needed to do for a long time. I picked the Easy Die Cutting Techniques Online Class. I am not a big die cutting person so I found this class super enjoyable and had so much fun putting the techniques I learned in the class to use on my floral card design today.

Easy Die Cutting Techniques: Altenew AECP Class Project:

I only created one project today but it's packed full of different cardmaking techniques that I learned during the class. I started off my card by cutting a panel of Neenah Classic Crest Solar White 110 lbs Cardstock to an A2 card front size. I then used the same cardstock and die cut the outline die from the Build a Garden Blooming Freesia Bundle. This was for two reasons; first I planned on using the die cuts to do a little embossing on my cardstock and two to use the negative die cut cardstock as a stencil. Both of which I learned during the class.

Embossing with Die Cuts:

To dry emboss with die cuts you need to use a nice heavy weight cardstock if possible. So once you have your chosen images die cut you will need an embossing mat. Some die cutting and embossing machines come with one but if not you can find one usually on the manufacture's website. You are going to follow the embossing sandwich for embossing with dies. Once I had the dry embossing done I could move on to the next step.

Negative Die Cut Stenciling:

Once my card front was dry embossed I took the negative die cut that was left and used it as a makeshift stencil. I placed it on my card front and my Mini Altenew Blending Brushes to ink blend through the opening on the negative die cut stencil. For this I started out with a little Buttercream ink and then added in a little Warm Sunshine ink from the Summer Afternoon Fresh Dye Ink Mini Cubes. While my stencil was still in place I used a little Coral Berry ink from my Red Cosmos Fresh Dye Ink Mini Cubes just around the edges. This added a little more color to the card front and allowed me to add a little more color to the card.

I then attached the card front onto my A2 size card base. I stamped the freesia image from the Build a Garden Blooming Freesia Bundle twice in Obsidian Black Pigment Ink onto some white cardstock. I set both panels to the side to let the ink dry completely before die cutting both out with the matching die. While my ink was drying I worked on my sentiment.

I took some scrap white cardstock and used the same Fresh Dye Inks (listed above) to ink blend three areas on the scrap of cardstock. I did one in the two yellow inks with just a touch of the Coral Berry at the bottom. And two areas of just Coral Berry. I then pulled out my I Really Miss You Stamps Set and the I Really Miss You Dies (both from Altenew) and stamped the "Miss" on the yellow section in Jet Black Fresh Dye Ink. And then on the other pieces I stamped the "I Really" and "You" in the same ink. I then used the Miss die from the I Really Miss You Dies to cut out that part of the sentiment. The other two parts of my sentiment I cut out on my paper trimmer.

To finish off my card I attached the two stamped and die cut floral images from the Build a Garden Blooming Freesia Bundle and trimmed off the excess that over hanged my cards base. I then card add a little glitter to these with a glitter brush pen. I wanted them to stand out against the colorful background. I then cut small pieces of Instant Dimension Foam Tape and placed behind my sentiment pieces and placed them on the center of my card.

There you have it my friends that's my project for this class. I have one more class to go for level one and I will share that with you soon. Then it's time for my Level One Final and move on to Level Two Classes.
