Hello, crafty friends! Today, I'm excited to share a fun and unique card design that brings a bit of sunshine into your crafting space. This project features the Hello Clear Stamp Set from Simon Says Stamp, and I promise, it's as delightful to create as it is to share! Let's dive into the creative process and explore some pro tips along the way.
Hello Sunshine CAS Card:
Bringing Sunshine to Life
I started by stamping the cheerful "Sunshine" image from the Hello Stamp Set onto a piece of Bristol Smooth Cardstock, cut at 4 1/4" x 5 1/2". For a crisp, clean impression, I used Versafine Onyx Black Ink—one of my go-to inks for detailed stamping. The quality of the cardstock here is crucial, as it allows for smooth blending and vibrant coloring.
Adding Color with Tombow Dual Brush Pens
Once the ink was dry, I reached for my trusty Tombow Dual Brush Pens. These pens are fantastic for adding rich, blendable color to your images. I love how they glide across the Bristol Smooth Cardstock, making it easy to achieve a professional look. Pro tip: If you're new to using these pens, try blending colors on a palette first, then apply them to your stamped image for a more controlled blend.
Creating Depth with Stencils and Inks
Next, I wanted to add a soft, blended background to highlight my stamped image. I used the large circle stencil from the Background Basics Stencil Set (from my stash). Placing it over the colored image, I carefully ink blended inside the circle using Tumbled Glass, Speckled Egg, and a touch of Savage Patina Distress Inks. This combination of colors creates a serene, sky-like effect that perfectly frames the sunshine sentiment.
The Magic of Drop Shadows
To give the stamped word a bit more dimension, I added a subtle drop shadow using a gray Tombow Dual Brush Pen. This step might seem minor, but it makes a significant difference in making the sentiment pop off the card. Here's a little tip: When creating drop shadows, imagine where the light source is coming from and add the shadow accordingly. It adds a realistic touch that's visually pleasing.
Finishing Touches
No card is complete without some finishing touches! I stamped a sub-sentiment underneath the main image with Versafine Onyx Black Ink. This ties the whole design together and adds a little extra message. Then, I attached the card front to an A2 Side Folding Card Base, ensuring everything was aligned perfectly.
For a bit of sparkle, I added Stardust Stickles to the sun, giving it a subtle, glittery finish. A few highlights with a White Gel Pen brought extra life to the stamped image, making it truly stand out.
