When it comes to get well cards, I’ve always found that they can sometimes feel a little too serious. Of course, we want to show care and concern, but I also believe a card can be both thoughtful and uplifting at the same time. That’s exactly why I reached for the brand-new Ducks in a Row Stamps & Die Bundle and the playful Oh Duck Stencil from The Rabbit Hole Designs’ August release. These new goodies are perfect for creating a lighthearted card that brings a smile to someone’s face—exactly the kind of pick-me-up we all need when we’re under the weather.

Quack Quack Get Well Soon Card | The Rabbit Hole Designs | August New Release
A Cheerful Twist on a Get Well Card
I decided to feature the adorable little “sick duck” from the Ducks in a Row stamp set—you know the one with the bandaged wing, thermometer in his beak, and ice pack on his head. He instantly made me laugh the first time I saw him, and I knew he’d be the perfect focal point for a get well card. Instead of leaning into traditional soft blues and greens that are often used on this type of card, I wanted the design to radiate warmth and happiness. So I turned to my Tombow Dual Brush Pens to bring him to life with bright, cheerful colors and then gave him extra personality with a touch of white gel pen highlights.
Pro Tip: When using water-based markers like Tombows, I love stamping on Bristol Smooth Cardstock. The surface is perfect for blending, and your colors stay vibrant without pilling the paper.

Building a Sunny Background
Every card needs a background that sets the tone, and the Oh Duck Stencil did just that for me. I layered it over smooth white cardstock and blended in shades of Dandelion and Canary ink for a fresh, sunny look. I kept the blending soft toward the edges and let the bolder yellows shine in the center, creating that “just hatched sunshine” effect. This backdrop instantly felt playful and tied in perfectly with the duck theme.
Pro Tip: When ink blending through stencils, tape your stencil lightly at the corners and work in circular motions from the outside in. This helps avoid harsh lines and keeps your blending buttery smooth.

Creating the Focal Point
To give my little duck center stage, I cut a simple circle die from smooth white cardstock and inked just around the edges with Buttercream ink. This soft halo effect grounds the stamped image without overwhelming it. I stamped the “Quack Quack” sentiment right onto the circle before popping everything up with foam adhesive. Dimension can make the smallest designs feel so much more polished, and it gave the duck just enough lift to stand out against the stenciled background.
Pro Tip: Sentiments can sometimes get lost on a busy background. Stamping them onto a smaller die-cut piece like a circle or label gives them a clean, defined space to shine.

Finishing Touches that Make a Difference
To pull everything together, I added a few Honey Baubles around the sentiment and duck. The subtle sparkle catches the light without distracting from the main image, almost like little drops of sunshine on the card front. I couldn’t resist adding a few white gel pen details to the duck as well—it’s such a small step, but those highlights make him look lively and give the coloring extra depth.
One of the things I love most about this design is how versatile it can be. While I used the “sick duck” for a get well card, you could easily switch him out with another duck from the bundle and change up the sentiment for birthdays, encouragement, or even just a playful hello. The Oh Duck Stencil works beautifully across all these occasions, making it a staple background piece for cheerful cards.

Why This Card Works
The real charm of this card lies in how it solves a common cardmaking dilemma: creating a get well card that feels hopeful and light instead of heavy. By combining whimsical images, sunny ink blending, and fun details, this card carries a message of care while still making the recipient smile. And honestly, sometimes laughter and a little brightness are the best medicine.
