Hello, crafty friends! I’m so excited to share a sneak peek of the absolutely adorable Capybara Stamp Set from the upcoming June 2025 Release by C.C. Designs. If you’re like me, you’ll love how this charming capybara instantly brings a big smile to your face — and to anyone who receives your handmade card. I had a blast creating a lighthearted summer card that’s full of playful pattern, a touch of sparkle, and of course, that irresistible capybara!

Don’t Worry, Be Capy! Sneak Peek of the June 2025 Release from C.C. Designs:

Balancing Busy Patterns with a Playful Focal Point

One thing I always try to keep in mind when working with busy patterned papers is finding a way to let the focal image shine without getting lost in the background. For this card, I used a piece of pattern paper from Lawn Fawn’s Fruit Salad 6 x 6 Pattern Paper Pad — one side with watermelons on a soft pink background, the other a classic pink and red gingham. Both are super cute, but together they can be a bit much if you’re not careful.

My trick? I layered them in a way that shows off both patterns while still giving that sweet capybara room to shine. By cutting the watermelon paper and gingham paper down to 3 3/4" x 5", and then splitting them at 2 3/8", I could highlight both designs in one panel. To make sure the transition between the two patterns felt intentional and not just busy, I added a 1/4" strip of green glitter paper from the Rainbow Glitter A2 Paper Pad (from SBC) right over the seam. It’s such a fun pop of sparkle and ties in perfectly with the watermelon theme!

Letting That Capybara Steal the Show

The star of the show, of course, is that little capybara! I stamped him onto Hammermill Smooth 100 lbs Cardstock with Memento Tuxedo Black Ink. I love how smoothly that cardstock takes alcohol markers — I colored him up with my Ohuhu Brush Markers, adding some rich brown shading to really make him pop. It’s always fun to add a few little white gel pen highlights to the fur and that juicy slice of watermelon he’s holding. I find those highlights really bring stamped images to life.

A Little Storytime: I remember one summer afternoon when I was a kid, my granddad would always hand me a huge slice of watermelon, bigger than my face. I’d try to eat it without making a mess, but of course, it was all over my cheeks and chin. That’s exactly the playful spirit I wanted to capture here — the carefree joy of summer in a single stamped image!

The Power of Vellum for Calming Busy Backgrounds

I always reach for vellum when I want to tone down a busy background without covering it up completely. Here, I die cut a 2 1/2" circle from a scrap of Vellum Cardstock using my Nested Circle Dies (from SBC). This creates a soft, subtle layer that lets the capybara stand out while still showing off those watermelon slices underneath. It’s a pro tip I come back to again and again — vellum is a card maker’s secret weapon for balancing pattern and focal images.

To give everything some lift and dimension, I used 1mm foam adhesive squares to attach the capybara to the vellum circle, then 2mm foam adhesive behind the vellum (hidden behind the capybara!) to pop it up on the card front. It’s those little lifts and layers that make a handmade card feel special and full of dimension.

Finishing Touches: Sentiments, Sparkle, and a Hint of Shine

I stamped the “Don’t Worry Be Capy” sentiment with Versafine Onyx Black Ink, then fussy cut it out to add a playful, layered element on top of the patterned paper. I always find that fussy cutting sentiments gives me more flexibility for placement and adds a nice bit of texture, too. To finish off the card, I sprinkled on a few pink, green, and red rhinestones to echo the watermelon theme and add that final bit of sparkle. I also added a little bit of Diamond Glaze to the watermelon slice and his tongue — it’s a small detail that brings out a juicy shine and makes the whole scene feel even more summery and sweet!

Final Thoughts and a Friendly Challenge

I’m so thrilled with how this sneak peek card turned out — it’s a celebration of summer, whimsy, and the joy of playing with paper. If you’ve been wanting to stretch your patterned paper stash and highlight a single focal image, I hope this inspires you to give it a go. Remember, a little vellum and a pop of foam adhesive can work wonders!
