Holiday cardmaking is one of my favorite times of the year. But if I’m being honest, sometimes it can start to feel a little repetitive—snowmen, ornaments, trees, and more snowmen. That’s why I love looking through my stamp stash to see what can be “holiday-fied.” For this card, I pulled out the Some Pig Stamp Set from Miss Ink Stamps and turned that sweet little piggy into the star of a festive Christmas wreath scene. It’s a cheerful and unexpected design that will definitely bring a smile to whoever opens it.

A Farmyard Twist on Christmas
There’s something delightful about pairing everyday images with holiday details. The pig and chicken from the Some Pig Stamp Set aren’t what you’d typically find on a Christmas card, but add in a wreath from the Oh Happy Day Frame Die Set and suddenly you’ve got a charming holiday farm scene. I colored the images with Triblend Markers, keeping the tones soft and warm so they wouldn’t compete with the bold background.
Pro Tip: When coloring animals for holiday cards, try keeping them a little more neutral and let your background or embellishments carry the “festive” feel. It makes the whole design feel more balanced.

Building a Festive Wreath
The wreath is really what ties this card together. I used the leaves and flowers from the Oh Happy Day Frame Die Set to create a circle of greenery accented with pops of red. By tucking in a twine bow and adding shimmer to the petals, the wreath instantly felt more like a Christmas decoration than an everyday floral.
This is one of my favorite tricks when making holiday cards: look at your floral dies in seasonal colors. Poinsettias? Instant holiday. Evergreen leaves? Perfect for winter. You don’t always need a dedicated Christmas set to make your supplies stretch.

Adding Background Layers
Behind the wreath, I wanted a hint of wintry magic without overwhelming the focal point. The Frosty Flakes Stencil and a little soft ink blending created the perfect snowy background panel. It’s subtle, but it adds so much texture and depth to the scene.
For the main card front, I reached for the Candy Stripe Stencil. Nothing says Christmas quite like peppermint stripes, right? To take it up a notch, I spritzed the panel with Lumberjack Plaid Distress Spritz. The sparkle catches the light just enough to make the whole background feel festive and fun.
Pro Tip: If you ever feel like your stenciled backgrounds look a little flat, add a layer of shimmer spray or glitter paste. It instantly gives the panel more life without a lot of extra effort.

Why This Card Works
What I love most about this card is the unexpected mix. Farmyard animals plus holiday details equals a design that feels fresh, playful, and memorable. It’s easy to fall back on the same holiday stamps every year, but sometimes the most special cards come from thinking outside the box.
If you’ve ever felt stuck making the same style of Christmas card over and over, try pulling out a non-holiday set and giving it a seasonal twist. A wreath, holiday colors, and a touch of sparkle can turn just about anything into a festive card.

Wrapping Up
This project reminded me that the best holiday cards aren’t always about perfection or traditional themes. They’re about creativity, surprise, and making the recipient smile. And honestly, that little pig with her holiday wreath is bound to do just that.
