Today, I’m sharing a birthday card that’s sure to turn heads and create a bit of birthday magic! I’ve always loved the idea of crafting something that’s not just a card but a tiny piece of art, and this Egyptian Mask Birthday Card fits the bill perfectly. Using some fabulous goodies from Scrappy Boy Stamps, I took the Egyptian Mask Card/Mini Album Die, the Egyptian 6 x 6 Background Stamp, the Cleopatra 6 x 6 Paper Pack, and a few other essential supplies to create a card that’s rich with detail and a real showstopper. This one’s for those times when you want to make a special birthday greeting that’s a little more… unforgettable!

Create a Stunning Egyptian Mask Birthday Card:
Starting with the Background: A Golden Choice
When I sat down to start this card, I found myself torn between a few beautiful patterned papers from the Cleopatra 6 x 6 Paper Pack. There was one with a green background that caught my eye, but the golden background with hieroglyphics felt like it had the perfect touch of ancient royalty. Sometimes I like to let the paper choose the mood of the card for me, and this golden one was calling out for a bit of extra sparkle.
To give that sparkle some staying power, I prepped the paper with my Cottontail Powder Tool. If you’ve ever struggled with embossing powder sticking where it’s not supposed to, this little tool is a must-have in your craft room. I then stamped the Egyptian 6 x 6 Background Stamp with embossing ink, making sure to cover the entire panel for a truly regal look. I poured on the Gold Super Fine Embossing Powder and watched as it transformed the paper into a gleaming work of art. It’s always a little magical to see the powder melt and shine under the heat tool, don’t you think?

Adding Dimension with Sentiments and Layers
With my golden background in place, it was time to bring in the sentiment. I reached for the Cleopatra Stamp Set and stamped out the “Happy Birthday” sentiment on a scrap of Midnight Black 110 lb Smooth Cardstock. Using the same gold embossing powder tied everything together beautifully and kept the theme cohesive. Once both the sentiment and background panel had cooled, I brought out my trusty Stitched Rectangle Nested Dies. I love using these for a polished edge—there’s just something about those little stitches that feels extra special.
The largest die cut the embossed background paper perfectly, giving it a finished look that’s ready for a card base. I used a top-folding A2 card base in Brilliant White 110 lb Smooth Cardstock, which has just the right weight to handle all the fabulous layers I was about to add. To bring a little of that golden goodness to the inside of the card, I cut a narrow strip of the leftover patterned paper and added it to the inside right edge. I also stamped on of the images and sentiments from the Cleopatra Stamp Set to the inside of the card as well. I used Peacock Feather Distress Oxide Ink to stamp with. It’s a little detail, but it ties the front and inside together so nicely.

The Egyptian Mask: Layered Luxury
Here’s where the real fun began: creating the Egyptian Mask! This die set from Scrappy Boy Stamps is absolutely packed with possibilities. I started by cutting the largest die from the same white cardstock I used for the card base—it’s always nice when the base layers match perfectly. For the stitched layer and the eye details, I used Midnight Black cardstock, while the base layer, face, headdress top, cobra detail, and beard were all cut from Gold Matte Foil Cardstock. I added a pop of turquoise with some cardstock from the Kaleidoscope pack for those intricate details that really make the mask come to life.
Here’s a little pro tip: when you’re layering detailed die cuts like this, it can be tricky to get everything lined up just right. In the video tutorial, I share my trick for lining up those layers so they’re perfectly aligned every time. Using a bit of liquid adhesive and working slowly from the bottom layer up gives you just enough wiggle room to get things looking polished.

Bringing it All Together
With all the pieces cut and ready, I assembled the mask, layering the black stitched piece onto the white base, then adding the gold foil details. The turquoise accents were the finishing touch for a little extra color and dimension. For the final assembly, I used 1mm foam squares to add the face, the top of the headdress, the cobra, and the beard—this gave the mask some dimension and made it pop off the card front in a really fun way.
Finally, I attached the finished mask to the card front with liquid adhesive and popped up the sentiment strip with 2mm mini foam squares. The result? A birthday card that’s equal parts regal and unique—definitely not your run-of-the-mill store-bought card!

A Card that Stands Out
I love how this project turned out and how it combines embossing, die cutting, and layering for a rich, detailed card that’s perfect for a special birthday. If you’re looking to create something a little different, this is such a fun design to play with. The Egyptian Mask Die is so versatile—it could easily become the focal point of so many different card designs!

I hope this card inspires you to dig into your stash and try something new. Whether you’re playing with gold foil, layering up those dies, or just experimenting with different color combos, there’s always a way to make it your own.
