Halloween cards are always so much fun to make, but if you’re anything like me, you sometimes want something a little different from the usual pumpkins, witches, and ghosts. That’s exactly why I reached for the A2 Man Eating Plant Die Set from Scrappy Boy Stamps. The playful, over-the-top design instantly made me think of Little Shop of Horrors, and I knew it would be perfect for a card that’s equal parts spooky and whimsical.

A Bold & Quirky Design

The star of the card is, of course, the man eating plant. I cut the pieces from Parsley Cardstock for the body, then added depth with a bit of Distress Ink blending. This simple step really transformed the flat cardstock into something dimensional and alive. For the tongue and lips, I used Cranberry Cardstock, which gives such a fun pop of color and a bit of attitude. The flower pot was cut from Sorbet Cardstock, which grounds the design with a bright contrast.

As I was building the layers, I couldn’t help but laugh—it felt like the plant was coming to life on my desk, just waiting to say “Feed me!” Sometimes the best cards are the ones that make you smile while you’re creating them, and this was definitely one of those moments.

Pro Tip: When working with layered die cuts, a little ink blending goes a long way. Even the smallest touch of shading can make each piece feel cohesive and help your finished design really stand out.

Setting the Scene with Patterned Paper

To give this hungry little plant a home, I reached for the Ghastly Greenery 6x6 Paper Pack. The rich, leafy patterns made the perfect backdrop and kept the whole scene playful instead of too dark or scary. I love how patterned paper can instantly set the tone for a card without needing a lot of extra effort. Here, it tied together the entire “jungle vibe” and made the plant feel right at home.

Pro Tip: Don’t be afraid to mix patterned papers that have similar themes but different scales. A bold leafy print behind a smaller, vine-detailed pattern adds interest without overwhelming your focal point.

A Sentiment with Personality

No card is complete without the right sentiment, and the Ghastly Greenery Stamp Set couldn’t have been more perfect. I stamped “Feed Me” in a bold red to match the lips and tongue, almost as if the plant itself were speaking. Placing the sentiment close to the mouth of the plant really made it feel interactive, which is such a fun detail for the recipient.

Why I Love This Design

This card reminded me that Halloween cards don’t have to stick to the traditional. Sometimes the best designs come from stepping outside the box and embracing something unexpected. The combination of bold dies, playful patterned paper, and just the right sentiment made this project a true standout.
