Love Themed Shaker Cards

Why Shaker Cards?

Shaker cards have always been a favorite of mine. There’s something so satisfying about giving a card a little shake and seeing all those tiny embellishments dance around. It’s like sending a little party in an envelope! For this project, I wanted to create something that really celebrates love and joy, perfect for Valentine’s Day.

Pink Valentine's card with heart cutout, heart patterns, and "HAPPY VALENTINE'S DAY" text. "Love" written below. Roses in background.

The Star of the Show: Infinity Hearts Dies

Let’s talk about the heart of these cards—literally! The Infinity Hearts Dies from Hero Arts are incredibly versatile and perfect for creating shaker elements. I used two sizes from the set to create a frame for my shaker window. The largest die was used to cut the acetate sheet and the outside of the frame, while the smaller die created the inner part of the frame. The leftover heart from the inside made a beautiful backdrop for the shaker.

Adding a Touch of Color

To give the background heart a little more pizzazz, I did some ink blending with a contrasting ink, creating a lovely ombre effect. This simple technique adds depth and interest without overpowering the shaker elements.

Pro tip: when ink blending, start off the edge of your paper and build up the color gradually to avoid harsh lines.

Patterned Paper Perfection

For the card base, I couldn’t resist using the 6" x 8" Valentine’s Day Silver Foil Paper Pad from Park Lane. The subtle shimmer of the foil paper adds a touch of elegance and perfectly complements the playful shaker element. I trimmed the paper to 4 1/4" x 5 1/2" and adhered it to a top folding A2 card base. It’s amazing how a little sparkle can elevate the entire design!

Let’s Talk Shaker Fill

Now, for the fun part—the shaker fill! I used the Envelope Specialty Glitter (Clay Embellishments) by Recollections. These tiny clay embellishments are so adorable and add a delightful pop of color. To assemble the shaker, I attached the acetate window to the frame using 1/8" Scor-tape and then used 3mm foam strips from Scrapbookcom to create a dimensional window that holds all the shaker elements in place.

Finishing Touches with Love

No Valentine’s Day card is complete without a heartfelt sentiment. I die cut the large “love” word from the Love Stamps & Cut set three times and stacked them together for added dimension. After adhering it to the card base, I stamped a subsentiment in Unicorn White Pigment Ink, covered it with White Detail Embossing Powder, and heat set it. A few more clay embellishments around the sentiment added the perfect finishing touch.
