When it comes to card making, sometimes you just want something that’s quick, easy, and still packed with that magical, handmade touch. That’s exactly what I had in mind when I sat down to create a card using Pixi Dust Designs' Fairy Pixi Dust Stamp Set, along with their coordinating dies and the oh-so-pretty Bella Flowers 6 x 6 Pattern Paper Pad. With a little help from my Karin Brush Marker Pros, this card came together beautifully, and I’m excited to share the details with you today!
The Inspiration Behind the Card:
Every now and then, I find myself gravitating toward whimsical designs. There's just something about fairies and their little enchanted worlds that brings out the childlike joy in me. When I first saw the Fairy Pixi Dust Stamp Set, I knew it would be perfect for creating a card that felt like stepping into a storybook. I wanted to keep the design fairly simple—something you could whip up quickly, but still have that wow factor. This card is perfect for when you need a last-minute birthday card or just want to send a bit of happiness to someone special.
The Magic of Stamping and Coloring
One of the joys of card making is seeing a simple stamped image come to life with color. For this card, I stamped two of the adorable fairies and the charming mushroom house from the Fairy Pixi Dust Stamp Set using Versafine Clair Nocturne Ink. I always reach for this ink when I want crisp, dark lines, especially when I’m working on watercolor paper like Canson XL.
Now, let’s talk about those Karin Brush Marker Pros. If you haven’t tried them yet, you’re in for a treat. They’re vibrant, blend beautifully, and the Clear Blender is a game-changer. It allows you to soften edges and create lighter shades, adding depth and dimension to your images. I love how it gave my fairies a soft, dreamy look, almost as if they’re glowing. When using watercolor paper, I find that letting each layer of color dry before adding another helps prevent the paper from pilling and gives you better control over your blending.
Crafting the Perfect Background
Once the images were colored and die cut with the coordinating Fairy Pixi Cuts, it was time to create a background that would complement, but not overshadow, the fairies. I decided to die cut an arch from Bristol Smooth Cardstock and another from a soft pink cardstock from the Pink Smooth Cardstock Paper Pad. Bristol Smooth is a fantastic choice when working with inks because it allows the colors to glide and blend seamlessly.
For the background on the arch, I reached for my Distress Oxide Inks in Mowed Lawn, Speckled Egg, and Victorian Velvet. These colors, when combined in a loose watercolor style, create a soft, ethereal sky with hints of greenery—a perfect setting for my fairies. I love the unpredictability of loose watercolor techniques; it’s almost like letting the colors tell their own story. A little tip: when working with multiple Distress Oxide colors, don’t be afraid to let them mix slightly. That’s where the magic happens, creating beautiful, organic transitions.
Assembling the Card
With my focal images and background ready, it was time to bring everything together. I cut a piece of the Bella Flowers 6 x 6 Pattern Paper to 4” x 5 1/4” and layered it onto the same pink cardstock I used earlier. The delicate floral pattern added a touch of elegance without stealing the spotlight. I also added an extra strip of the same patterned paper across the center of the card front, grounding the design and tying it all together.
The final step was assembling the card. I attached the layered panel onto an A2 top-folding card base made from Nectar Cardstock. This soft, warm tone provided a lovely contrast to the cool colors of the background. To add some dimension, I popped up the arch with Instant Dimensional Foam Tape, making it the focal point of the card. The fairies and mushroom house were then arranged on the arch, creating a little scene that draws you in.
A Little Something Extra
One of my favorite touches in any card is adding a bit of surprise on the inside. For this card, I stamped another sentiment and one of the fairies in Peach Fuzz Ink on the inside of the card base. It’s a small detail, but it adds that extra bit of thoughtfulness that makes handmade cards so special.
Final Thoughts
Creating this card was a reminder of why I love stamping and coloring so much. It’s amazing how a few simple supplies can come together to create something that feels magical. The Fairy Pixi Dust Stamp Set, paired with the vibrant Karin Brush Marker Pros, made this project not only quick but also incredibly satisfying.
Whether you’re looking to create something whimsical and fun or just need a quick card idea, I hope this project inspires you to play with your supplies and let your creativity shine. Remember, the most important part of card making is to have fun and enjoy the process—each card is a little piece of art that you get to share with someone special.
