Create Your Own UNIQUE Custom Backgrounds with Stencils

One of my favorite ways to keep cards clean yet interesting is by layering stencils to create something completely custom—and this card is a perfect example of how fun that can be. I started with the Torn Paper 4 x 8 Stencil from The Rabbit Hole Designs, lightly tracing the shape onto white cardstock before adding color around the outside of the design. After lining the stencil back up and masking off the colored areas, I layered the Oh Duck 6 x 6 Stencil right over the top and softly blended ink into the center. Peeling back the stencils and masking to reveal that one-of-a-kind background is always my favorite moment—it’s such an easy way to get a background you simply can’t buy pre-made.

To keep the focus on that playful background, I added the cutest little ducks from the Prost! Stamps & Dies Bundle, stamped, colored, and die cut for a bit of dimension. The panel was trimmed slightly and mounted to an A2 top-folding card base, then I traced the torn edge with a gel pen to help it pop just a bit more. A simple stamped sentiment, foam tape for dimension, and a few finishing touches brought everything together without overpowering the design. If you’re looking for a fresh way to stretch your stencils and create backgrounds that feel special every single time, this layered stencil approach is definitely worth trying.
