Happy Festivus, my crafty friends! Today I’m sharing a card that made me grin from ear to ear the whole time I was creating it — a Happy Festivus 3D Box Card featuring the Scrappy Boy Stamps New Yorkers Collection. If you’ve ever wanted to make a dimensional card that looks impressive but comes together surprisingly easily, this one’s for you. There’s just something about combining those cheerful New Yorker characters with a bold city skyline that makes this design feel both festive and nostalgic — like a playful nod to all those classic New York holiday sitcom moments.

A Festivus Celebration with Big City Style

For this card, I wanted to create something that captured the hustle, humor, and heart of New York during the holidays — but with a lighthearted Festivus twist. The 3D Box Card & Topper Die Set from Scrappy Boy Stamps was the perfect foundation. I love that it cuts and scores everything you need for a dimensional card base that folds flat for mailing (which is always a bonus). The panels fit together so neatly, and the topper adds that finished edge that makes the design look polished and professional.

Once the base was assembled, I reached for the New York City Scape Die Set to bring the background to life. Those skyline silhouettes instantly set the scene — you can almost imagine the city lights twinkling behind the characters. I layered several cuts in black cardstock for dimension and tucked them at varying depths inside the box card, creating that wonderful sense of depth and perspective that makes box cards so fun to build.

Characters Full of Personality

No city scene is complete without its people, and the New Yorkers Stamp Set absolutely steals the show here. These cheerful, cartoon-style characters have so much charm — you can almost hear their laughter! I colored them with alcohol markers, giving their outfits a cozy winter vibe with pops of blue, red, and soft neutrals. The New Yorkers Outline Die Set made cutting them out effortless, leaving a clean border that really helps them stand out against the skyline backdrop.

I like to think of these little characters as our stand-ins — ready to celebrate Festivus with all the good humor and heart that crafting brings. That’s one of my favorite things about projects like this: you can personalize them to tell your own story, just through color choices and arrangement.

Pattern, Color, and Playful Details

To add that festive pop, I used the New Yorkers 6 x 6 Pattern Paper Pack. It’s filled with bold, playful prints that perfectly match the stamps. The “Happy Festivus!” sentiment paper made a great accent for the front and sides of the box, pulling the whole theme together and tying in the bright red background with the characters’ outfits.

Pro Tip: When working with busy patterned paper, balance it with solid-colored die cuts and simple layers. That contrast keeps your design from feeling overwhelming while still giving it plenty of visual energy.

For a finishing touch, I added a few small white highlights with a Posca White Paint Marker and a light touch of shimmer on the skyline. Those tiny details make a big difference — they catch the light beautifully and help guide the eye through all the layers of the design.

The Secret to Easy 3D Designs

I know dimensional cards can sometimes seem intimidating, but this project proves how approachable they can be. The 3D Box Card & Topper Die Set takes all the measuring and scoring out of the equation, so you can focus on the creative part — the decorating, layering, and storytelling. And because the dies from the New Yorkers Collection coordinate so well together, every element fits perfectly without needing a lot of trimming or adjusting.

The best part? This entire card folds flat for mailing! You can send someone a whole New York cityscape that pops up right out of the envelope — it’s like giving them a tiny handmade diorama to brighten their day.

Festive, Fun, and Full of Heart

This Happy Festivus 3D Box Card might just be one of my favorite holiday projects this season. It’s bright, full of personality, and surprisingly simple to assemble — a true “looks complicated but isn’t” design. Whether you’re making cards to share with friends or looking for a new way to use your dies and stamps, this project is a wonderful reminder that the most memorable cards are the ones that make people smile.

If you’ve never tried a box card before, the Scrappy Boy Stamps 3D Box Card & Topper Die Set is a fantastic place to start. Pair it with a fun collection like the New Yorkers and you’ll be hooked on 3D cardmaking in no time.
