Spring is in the air, and I couldn’t be more excited to share a new card project featuring some of my favorite products from The Rabbit Hole Designs’ March 2025 Release and products from my stash. If you love scene-building, masking techniques, and adding just the right sentiment to finish off your designs, then you are going to love this one!

For today’s project, I created a playful, springtime scene using the Easter Bunnies Stamp Set (which, fun fact, isn’t filled with actual bunnies—it’s adorable kids dressed up as Easter bunnies!). Paired with the stunning Daffodil Stamp Set and the NEW Sentimentally Speaking Holidays Bundle, this card comes to life with soft coloring, layered depth, and a few little finishing touches that make all the difference.
Let’s dive into what makes this card special!
New Sentimentally Speaking Holidays Bundle:
Bringing a Story to Life with Stamping & Masking
One of my favorite things about scene-building is how it allows you to tell a little story through stamping. With this design, I wanted to capture a cheerful Easter morning—a group of kids dressed as bunnies, painting eggs, surrounded by bright spring florals.
To create the illusion of depth, I turned to masking, a technique I use all the time when building layered images. I started with the bunny painting the Easter egg from the Easter Bunnies Stamp Set, stamping it first on a Neenah Classic Crest Solar White 80 lbs Cardstock with Memento Tuxedo Black Ink. This placement set the scene, making it the focal point of the design.

From there, I created a mask for the first bunny and continued adding more characters—a little one holding a paintbrush and paint can, and another carrying an egg—stamping and masking each along the way. This simple trick lets you position images behind one another seamlessly, without overlapping lines. I even added a few carrots in the foreground for extra interest!
With the bunnies in place, I turned to the Daffodil Stamp Set to fill in the background. There’s something about daffodils that just screams spring! I used both the large and small daffodil images, stamping and masking them to create a full floral backdrop. By masking as I went, the flowers appear to be naturally tucked behind the bunnies, completing the scene.
Pro Tip: When masking, always start with the images you want in the foreground and work backward. This ensures the right elements overlap in a natural way!

Bringing the Scene to Life with Color
With the stamping done, it was time for my favorite part—coloring! For this project, I used the Ohuhu Halawa Series 72 Colors Oil-Based Colored Pencils. These blend beautifully and allow for layering, which is key when working on detailed images like these.
When coloring, I always like to build up layers slowly, starting with a light base and gradually adding depth. The bunnies’ costumes got a soft pastel treatment, with hints of pink inside their ears and subtle shading to make the fabric look plush. For the Easter eggs, I went a little bolder—because what’s an Easter egg without bright, happy colors?
To add some extra dimension and highlights, I reached for a white gel pen. A few strategic dots and lines on the eggs and bunny ears helped make them pop. And for a final bit of magic, I brushed Clear Overlay Sparkle Pen over the eggs and inner ears for just the right amount of shimmer. It’s a small step, but it makes a big impact!
Pro Tip: When using colored pencils, apply multiple light layers rather than pressing too hard right away. This allows you to blend colors smoothly without damaging the paper’s surface.

The Perfect Sentiment & Finishing Touches
Once the coloring was complete, I needed a sentiment that would complement the scene without overwhelming it. The Sentimentally Speaking Holidays Bundle was the perfect choice! This set is designed for all major holidays throughout the year, so you’ll always have the right words on hand.
I stamped “Happy Easter” onto white cardstock using Versafine Clair Nocturne Ink—my go-to for crisp, deep black sentiments. Once dry, I used the coordinating die to cut it out, then popped it up with foam squares for dimension.
To tie everything together, I mounted the finished scene onto an A2 top-folding card base. A few clear sparkling embellishments (part of the free embellishment mix that comes from the Rabbit Hole Designs with every order as a little thank you gift) around the sentiment added just the right amount of shine without distracting from the overall design.

Final Thoughts + A Special Deal You Don’t Want to Miss
This card was such a joy to create! I love how the masking technique allowed for a seamless layered look, while the coloring details and sparkle accents brought the scene to life. If you haven’t tried scene-building with masking before, I highly recommend it—it’s a game-changer for creating depth and dimension without extra bulk.
And here’s a little bonus treat: When you spend $45 or more (before shipping & taxes) at The Rabbit Hole Designs, you’ll receive the Enamel Dot Bundle for FREE! Just add it to your cart, and the discount will apply at checkout. But don’t wait—this special offer ends April 30, 2025!
I hope this project inspires you to create your own springtime scene card. If you give it a try, I’d love to see what you make!
