Quick & Easy Foiled Cards | Video Tutorial

Hello, crafty friends! Today, I’m thrilled to share a super fun and easy way to add some sparkle to your holiday cards using the Holiday Greetings Flash Cards from Pajama Crafter Stamps. Foiling is one of those techniques that can seem a little intimidating at first, but trust me—it’s much easier than it looks, and the results are absolutely stunning! In this post, I’ll be walking you through how I used these flash cards, some colorful Deco Foils, and my Mini Minc Machine to create a whole batch of cards that are perfect for the holiday season.

I’ve also added a little bit of stenciling and ink blending to give the backgrounds some extra depth and interest, plus a few embellishments to finish everything off. Whether you’re new to foiling or a seasoned pro, I hope this post inspires you to pull out your foils and get crafty!

Quick & Easy Foiled Cards:

Why Foiling? It’s Easier Than You Think!

Let me tell you a little story: When I first got my hands on a foiling machine, I was so excited but also a bit overwhelmed. There were so many options, and I didn’t want to mess up and waste my supplies. But once I got started, I realized that foiling is one of those techniques where you don’t need a ton of skill or special tools—just a little patience and the right products. And, of course, foiling can elevate a simple card design into something that looks like it took way more effort than it actually did!

For today’s cards, I used the Holiday Greetings Flash Cards from Pajama Crafter Stamps. These are pre-designed panels that are just begging to be foiled! All I did was run them through my Mini Minc Machine with some Deco Foils in various colors, and voila—beautiful, shiny card fronts in just a few minutes.

Pro Tip: Make sure your foiling machine is warmed up properly before you start, and always use a piece of parchment or a carrier sheet to protect your designs. This will help ensure that the foil adheres evenly and you don’t get any unwanted marks.

Adding Depth with Stencils and Ink Blending

Once the foiling was done, I wanted to add a little extra something to the backgrounds, so I pulled out my Background Basics Stencils (from Penny Black). I love how a bit of stenciling can instantly give your card a more polished look, and it’s such a simple step!

For the stenciling, I did some light ink blending with distress inks that coordinated with the colors of the foils I used. I like to keep my ink blending soft and subtle—just enough to add some texture without overpowering the foiled designs. On a few of the cards, I also blended a little Memento Toffee Crunch Ink, which added a warm, almost vintage feel that I think works perfectly for holiday cards.

Pro Tip: When choosing inks for blending, try to pick shades that complement or match your foiled elements. This keeps the overall look cohesive and helps the foiled areas stand out even more.

Finishing Touches and Embellishments

To finish off my cards, I adhered the foiled and stenciled panels to A2 top-folding card bases using Neenah Classic Crest Solar White Ultra Thick Cardstock or Neenah Desert Storm 100 lbs Cardstock. This is my go-to cardstock for card bases because it’s sturdy and holds up well to layers and embellishments.

And speaking of embellishments, I couldn’t resist adding some sparkle! I used a mix of Cosmic Rhinestones, Fairy Dust Rhinestones, and Night Out Pearls from Pajama Crafter Stamps to give each card that final touch of glam. For the Happy Hanukkah card, I went a step further and added some splatters with watered-down white acrylic paint (from FolkArt) and Blue Shimmer Tone on Tone Spray (from Hero Arts). I love how the splatters add a bit of whimsy and movement to the design—it’s like a little snowfall captured on paper!

Pro Tip: When adding embellishments, try to vary the sizes and placement to create a more balanced look. I like to start with the largest embellishments and work my way down to the smallest, filling in any gaps as I go.

Wrapping It Up and More Inspiration

Foiling can seem like a big undertaking, but as you can see, it’s really just a matter of layering on some shine and letting the products do the work for you. I hope this post has inspired you to give foiling a try if you haven’t already—or to dust off your machine and get foiling again if it’s been a while!
