Halloween cards are some of my favorite to make because you can lean into the whimsy and playfulness of the season. Today, I’m excited to share a Split Panel Fun Fold card featuring the Cubby Witch Stamp Set from C.C. Designs. I love this fold because it looks complicated at first glance but is actually really approachable once you try it. The design lets your focal image take center stage while still giving you plenty of room to play with backgrounds and sentiment placement. It’s the kind of card that makes people say, “How did you do that?”—and those are always the most fun to give away.

Witchy Wishes: Split Panel Fun Fold Halloween Card with Cubby Witch
A Split Panel Fun Fold with Personality
I have always loved card folds that add a little surprise when you open them. The split panel fold has been a go-to for me lately because it’s interactive without requiring a ton of measuring or engineering. For this card, the panels frame the Cubby Witch so beautifully. She’s tucked inside her little window on the front, ready to greet the recipient. This fold is also fantastic if you’re someone who likes to showcase patterned paper—here I used a bright star-covered design that screams Halloween night sky.
Pro Tip: If you’re using patterned paper with a bold print, balance it with solid or softer background elements so your stamped image doesn’t get lost. The fold itself already adds interest, so let one design shine.

A Watercolored Witch
The Cubby Witch from C.C. Designs has so much character. I wanted her outfit to pop but also feel playful, so I reached for my Tim Holtz Watercolor Pencils. These pencils are great because they give you the control of coloring with regular pencils, but you can activate them with water for a soft, painterly look. I gave her dress a bright yellow green glow and added shading to her purple hat for depth.
I think watercolor pencils are especially forgiving for images with larger open areas like this. You don’t need to be perfect with the blending—sometimes the slight variation in color is what makes the image come alive. I remember the first time I tried them years ago, I was convinced I’d “ruined” my image because it didn’t look smooth enough. But when it dried, it had that hand-painted charm you just don’t get from markers alone.
Pro Tip: Always start with lighter colors and build your way up to darker tones. It’s much easier to deepen color than to take it away.

A Cloudy Halloween Sky
Inside the card, I wanted something that would feel magical and set the scene, so I added a glowing ink blended cloud background. Distress Inks work perfectly for this technique because they layer beautifully. I chose shades of yellow and orange to mimic the glow of a Halloween sunset, and a darker orange at the bottom to ground the scene.
The clouds peek through when the card is closed, which gives the card extra depth. This is one of those little details that makes the fold even more rewarding to open. You can imagine the witch flying through the clouds, heading out on her Halloween adventure.
Pro Tip: Use a light hand when ink blending clouds. You can always add more layers of color, but if you go too heavy too fast, you lose the soft, dreamy effect.

The Finishing Touches
To pull everything together, I added the sentiment “Witchy Wishes” stamped in a playful font. A sprinkling of rhinestones in coordinating colors gives just the right amount of sparkle without overwhelming the design. I love how the gems echo the starry patterned paper and tie the front panel to the inside of the card.
This card is a great example of how you can combine simple techniques—watercoloring, ink blending, and a fold—to create something that feels extra special. You don’t need complicated tools or hours of time to make a card that will wow your friends. And best of all, you can adapt the same fold for any occasion. Imagine it with a snowman for Christmas, a bouquet for spring, or balloons for a birthday card. The possibilities really are endless.

Wrapping It Up
Halloween is the perfect time to experiment with fun folds and playful images like the Cubby Witch. Between the watercolored image, the split panel fold, and the glowing cloud background, this card came together with just the right mix of whimsy and polish. If you’ve never tried a fun fold before, this is a fantastic place to start. It’s approachable, adaptable, and guaranteed to bring a smile.
